NC Senator Jeff Tarte & Rep. John R. Bradford, III Call On Governor Roy Cooper To Give Notice Of Cancellation Or Modification Of I-77 Toll Road Contract
Cornelius, N.C. – N.C. Senator Jeff Tarte and NC Representative John R. Bradford, III today issued the following statement calling on NC Governor Roy Cooper to give notice of modification or cancellation of the I-77 toll road contract.
“As the elected representatives of the Lake Norman area in the North Carolina General Assembly, we call upon North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper to immediately issue his notice of cancellation or modification of the I-77 toll road contract. The contract is clear that the only entity with any authority to cancel or modify the contract is the Governor and his appointed Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Transportation. It is time the Governor honors his very own campaign promise and do so before the upcoming November election. He is in North Mecklenburg tonight not to stand with us against the tolls, but to campaign for party politics instead of doing what is right. This is unacceptable. We call on him and his administration to cancel or modify the contract immediately so that the General Assembly can appropriate the fiscal resources necessary to complete the cancellation or modification, as well as exempt the project from the Strategic Transportation Investments program formula. The time is now and the Governor has no reason whatsoever to wait except to make a mockery out of our hard-working constituents and play political games with our roads.”
